Green lipped mussels (GLMs) are a type of shellfish native to New Zealand. They are a natural source of omega-3 fatty acids, including eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which are important for canine health. GLMs also contain a unique omega-3 fatty acid called eicosatetraenoic acid (ETA), which has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. ETA is not found in other common omega-3 sources, such as fish oil.

GLMs may be a good choice for dogs who are allergic to fish, as they are not a type of fish. GLMs may also help to improve the absorption of EPA in the body.

In addition to their anti-inflammatory properties, GLMs may also offer other benefits for dogs, such as:

  • Reducing the risk of contaminants, as GLMs are less likely to contain heavy metals compared to fish oil

  • Providing additional nutrients, such as glucosamine and chondroitin, which support joint health

GLMs can be given to dogs in various forms, including whole, powder, or oil.

Overall, GLMs are a valuable source of omega-3 fatty acids, including the unique ETA, which has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. They offer a safe and effective alternative to fish oil, particularly for dogs with allergies. Consider incorporating GLMs into your dog's diet to support their overall health and well-being
