READY TO START FRESH?

LET KAI SHOW YOU HOW!

How to start fresh

Transitioning Your Dog to Fresh Food
Regardless of whether your dog has been eating kibble or fresh food exclusively, it is advised to slowly introduce any new food alongside their current diet. We recommend a 10-day transition period, but please bear in mind that the duration may differ for each dog based on their individual needs and responses.

  • Also note, you don't have to transition completely! Combo-feeding (a mix of fresh and kibble) is a great option, and even a little fresh food can offer big health benefits by boosting gut health and adding variety to their diet.

  • It's important to consider that some ingredients, like omega-3 fatty acids, have therapeutic benefits that depend on the amount consumed. To fully experience these benefits, combo feeding might not be sufficient, and a complete transition might be necessary. Ultimately, the best option depends on your dog's specific needs, your budget, and what you're hoping to achieve with their diet.

Step 1

TRANSITION

Transitioning Your Dog to New Food
When introducing a new food to your dog, it's important to transition gradually over a period of seven to ten days. Begin by mixing a small amount of the new food with their old food. If your dog encounters any digestive problems during this transition, it's essential to slow down the process. Keep in mind that every dog is unique, so some may need a longer or shorter transition period based on their individual needs.

Loose Stool During Transition Period for Dogs
It's normal for dogs to experience loose stool during the transition period to a new diet. However, if your dog has excessive diarrhea, it's advisable to cease feeding and offer only water for 12-24 hours to allow the stomach to settle. Once the stomach has settled, you can then proceed with the transition process. Keep in mind that some dogs may take longer to transition and this totally normal, especially if switching from highly processed foods to fresh foods. This is mostly due to the introduction of pre-biotics in fresh food. Eating fresh foods promotes gut micro-biome diversification and better overall health but if your dog is not used to eating fresh foods this could cause too much bacteria (beneficial bacteria) and upset stomach. It is only temporary.

Step 2

SERVING

Store in the freezer, thaw before serving, do not use high heat!

Skip the microwave or stove top to preserve nutrients! Some nutrients are heat sensitive and My dog Kai is already fully cooked for optimal healthfulness.

Some dogs crave a warm meal and in this case, a touch of warm water will do the trick!

My dog Kai fresh food can be served straight from the refrigerator.

For more fun, we recommend using a lick mat or stuffing your friend’s meal into a Kong toy.

FEEDING

Use our Feeding Calculator to get accurate feeding recommendations!

By inputting your dog's information, you can receive personalized feeding guidelines. Keep in mind, each of our diets has a unique caloric density, which can affect the recommended feeding amounts.

FEEDING CALCULATOR

We recommend you weigh your dogs food to prevent under or over eating. For smaller dogs under 20 lbs we recommend a food scale and to measure by grams for accuracy.
